About Kotagede

Kotagede was a forest named Mentaok. Until in 16th Century, Ki Ageng Pemanahan (ruler of Islamic Kingdom of Pajang) opened the forest and established settlement that he named after his title ‘Ki Gedhe Mataram’ means the Lord of Mataram.
