Trekking Mount Andong

trekking mount andongTrekking mount andong in central java. Another less know mountain in Yogyakarta Area is Mt. Andong. This mountain is located on the north side of Merapi volcano and Merbabu Mountain. This mountain is very easy to hike and interesting for those who have a little less condition. On the way to this mountain we pass some farms which are producing chili, cabbage and tobacco.

The total distance of this trek is only 5 kilometers with elevation gain of just 700 meter.  During the hike we can stop several times to enjoy the landscape as along the way up you can find several some shelters.  At three if these shelters we can stop for taking / filling up our water supply. Even 500 meters before reaching the top, we will pass a natural spring, where you can actually drink the water out of the spring directly.

Although this mountain is not that high as Merapi and Merbabu, it still offers a very beautiful sunrise with the Merapi volcano, Lawu, Merbabu, Ungaran, Sindoro, Sumbing and Gilipetung mountains at the background. The peak of this Andong Mountain looks like the back of a cow with several shades of green. From another viewpoint, you can see two ancient tombs. The people inside these tombs are the ones who had spread the Islamic religion around the area of the slopes of Mt. Andong.
