If you are from Yogyakarta, you can go first to Surabaya using train. After that using train again, go to Probolinggo. Surabaya to Mount Bromo distance is 110 kms. It is about two hours and twelve minutes by car. So if it is needed, just use private car or rent car in Pamitran to ease your trip to Mount Bromo. Other route can be done from Malang which is the best way to shorten your journey, and Pasuruan which is the nearest city from Surabaya.
Bali to Mount Bromo is also another route you can take. So from Bali, take bus and headed to Gilimanuk port to cross the island. Yes, you need ferry to cross from Bali to Banyuwangi.
